Ready for the island!

Được phát hành: 01.04.2017

After long exhausting weeks and postponing the trip due to work, I was excited to finally go to Fraser Island. It started on Monday, March 27th and lasted until Wednesday.

First, we took the bus to Rainbow Beach. There, we switched to jeeps with good suspension, which we needed, as it turned out later. I was glad to be in the guide's car, with nine others. Mostly from Denmark and Sweden! We were the party bus, as we sat opposite each other and were the largest group.

From the beginning, there was a friendly atmosphere and we all introduced ourselves differently than other groups. Then we started to the ferry, it only takes 15 minutes to Fraser Island. And on the way, you can see dolphins! Arriving, we drove a looong way in the sand to our accommodation and everyone was surprised how big this island is! It was great to feel the wind and drive in the sand.

The first point was Lake Mckenzie and that was also my highlight! Impressive! We were really lucky with the weather and could fully enjoy the lake!

The drive there was very bumpy and an adventure that scared some people in our party bus, but I found it very funny and felt safe the whole time!

Back at the resort, we had spaghetti Bolognese, the food was really good and our guide made a lot of effort to make everyone happy! The resort was a bit like a school camp or holiday camp :D You have the option to sleep in a tipi (tent) or in a normal bunk bed. I chose the normal bed.

The second day started very early again, there was a lot on the agenda. Departure was at 8 am! First, we went to El Creek, not as spectacular as we thought, but still nice to float in the water and in the last hour the sun came out as well.

After lunch, we went to the famous shipwreck and a beautiful lookout!

And lastly, to the Champagne Pools, which are actually called that because it bubbles, although there was little action there for us, but still impressive and a great place!

Back at the resort, I was in food heaven, it was steak night with potatoes, a sauce, and real vegetables, yay! You can't imagine how delicious potatoes can be when you haven't eaten them for almost 2 months. We all enjoyed this dinner very much!

On the last day, we were unfortunately awakened with lots of rain, but still our guide Jimmi decided to stick to the plan and we had a small 40-minute hike there and the same back through the rain, but before that we naturally equipped ourselves with extravagant garbage bag rain ponchos. I was pretty satisfied with my rain outfit and received many compliments :P The goal was Lake Wabby, it would have been nicer in the sunshine, but we tried to make the best of it. When you were in the lake, you had a natural fish spa, as there were small fish in the water nibbling at your skin, it was very funny. There was nothing around us except sand - impressive, a bit like a desert!

YAY we
YAY we're here!

After lunch, we returned in pouring rain! I want to thank the great guide Jimmi for the tour and my fellow party people for the three unforgettable days with lots of fun, interesting and funny conversations, and great togetherness!

I still have some around me thanks to Cyclone Debbie.... Yes, that's right, back from Fraser on Thursday evening, Cyclone Debbie also raged in Noosa and unfortunately took our electricity for 18 hours. An interesting but somehow frightening experience when you hear that people have been injured or even died. Locals say that this was one of the worst storms in 6 years. Since I worked on Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning, I didn't notice much until the power outage, of course. But working at a reception without electricity and with many stranded backpackers requires a lot of creativity and clever ideas... those were stressful and tough workdays, but also a special experience!

By now we have full power again and on Monday all backpackers should be able to continue their journey, no matter which direction... I am really looking forward to soon be one of these backpackers! And I'm counting the days until I can travel to Brisbane, even though it's hard to leave the beautiful place "Noosa" and my colleagues! I have one more week to visit all my favorite places hopefully in sunshine

Best regards and see you soon!
