It continues. Dune sites with motor enthusiasts, off-road drivers who indulge their passion in these very dunes, alternate with camps in national parks. Breathtaking landscapes, beautiful stretches of coast. Of course, Monkey Mia cannot be missed, with its dolphins that come right up to the beach. We went out in a kayak to go snorkeling. Turtles, manta rays, sharks. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything. The way back against the wind and waves was a challenge.
We continued on to Kennedy National Park. Impressive scenery. Red rocks glow in the sun. Me too.
Here inland the fly plague is even worse. They disappear at sunset, but with the darkness small flea-like bugs appear that almost attack you. So back to the sea, where the wind makes the flies more bearable. On the remote road we saw eagles attacking roadkill kangaroos and a dingo that was hung from a tree by its hind legs. Huge termite mounds line the road.
We find a camping park near Exmouth and spend the afternoon at Mauritius Beach. The air in the evening is pleasantly warm and the sunset is spectacular.
A snorkeling tour to/with whale sharks is booked for the next day. Not cheap, but worth every cent. A very special experience.
Despite the many impressions and unique experiences, the thought of quitting is creeping in. I notice that it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to muster motivation and enthusiasm.
Everyone tells me how great what I'm doing is, but I don't stand behind it. Not under these circumstances. Maybe it would be different if I had planned a road trip, prepared for it and been excited about it. As it is, it's a stopgap solution that I'm not happy with.
Stupid? -Maybe.
