Day 24: Reached Bremen

Được phát hành: 05.08.2023

I'm back in tour mode. Breakfast, pack, fix the bike, start riding. Before that, I spoke with the landlord about his hotel/restaurant 'Schützenhof'. He showed me a picture of how it looked 37 years ago. A courtyard like many others, with stables, farm buildings, barns. Family-owned for 200 years. A country inn for 37 years. His life's work. His motto: What could be better? Every day in the pub, every weekend a party! Another notable thing: Platt is spoken here. We speak Platt..

After 5 km, I realize that I haven't taken any pictures like in the previous days. I'm annoyed, but I don't turn back. Things are going well, the weather is cooperating. Blue and white, as they would say in Bavaria. Pleasant temperature, some wind from the side or front.

In Zeven, I'm back on the Hamburg - Bremen cycle path. The signage is good, I hardly need Komoot. But there are no rest areas. The landscape is rural, the smell confirms that clearly. Many farms, more horses than cows can be seen. Otherwise, fields on the left, forest on the right. Or the other way around. Or through the forest (the paths remind me of Wacken...).

There - a self-service farm shop with table, bench, chairs. Break - almost 30 km without a break. Just for fun, I treat myself to a cola from the modern vending machine, the items are brought down with the lift. Nothing falls straight into the dispenser anymore! If you don't know what 'just for fun' means: That's what people say in Swabian when you consume something without actually wanting it, to demonstrate that you appreciate the seating. Mir lassad ons nix nochsaga!

By the way, I decide to play it safe once again and book with booking for the sake of simplicity. This means that I will cycle the remaining 50 km to Bremen today. There is really nothing that could stop me, no sights in sight. I was in Bremen in 2008 with my family. I had torn my Achilles tendon while playing football and had to wear that clunky shoe. I still remember the Weser promenade, I liked it. I was told that the ship anchored there regularly goes to Bavaria with Beck's beer and comes back with Franziskaner. Whether it's true or not - I liked the story.

Many meadows are flooded, a few cyclists come towards me, there is hardly any traffic on the roads. But it's a beautiful ride for the eyes and soul, I enjoy it. Then more and more people appear, Bremen can't be far away anymore. Then I'm in the city, and the noise and exhaust fumes bother me. When I stop after the main train station to look for the way to the accommodation, I realize that I'm standing in front of Birkenstraße - that's where I want to go. After about 80 km, I can call it a day.
