On Sunday morning we took the train from Fes to Marrakesh. Half the day, with changing fellow travelers in our compartment and very many different landscapes behind the window.
In Marrakesh we took the bus to Ghizlane. Arshiya knows her from a previous visit to Marrakesh. Ghozlane is really nice and also prepared a huge dinner for us...
On Monday morning our Sahara tour started. Again the whole day in a minibus. First out of Marrakesh, over the Atlas Mountains to Ait Ben Haddou. Then we stop in Ouarzazate. Also pretty nice. In the evening we sleep in the hotel after a few more photo stops. The next day carpets were shown to us and we visited the Todra Gorges. In the evening we were finally at the edge of the Sahara. Full program, camel ride (camels only live in Asia) and night in a tent.
I am absolutely not suitable for tourist group trips anymore and I get a major crisis with mass processing. The constantly changing landscape we drove through was impressive and really beautiful. Everything else, well, so-so. It was just the easiest way to get to the desert and see some interesting places along the way. But I would much rather be my own boss, deciding for myself where to have lunch (not in the overpriced restaurant) or where to stop. And in general, we spent a bit too much time on the bus for three days. I am always torn. On one hand, I would like to see a lot and on the other hand, I would prefer to get off and walk, so that we don't just stop at the big places, but also take everything in between.
But at least I was in the Sahara and the road there, through various lunar landscapes, mountains, stone deserts and grassy steppes, was very beautiful.
Now we are back in bustling Marrakesh.
