Roadtrip Day 32 - Shark Bay / Monkey Mia

Chop etilgan: 17.10.2017

Since we were on the road so early due to the rain, we decided to go straight to the Monkey Mia Resort. Luckily, the rain had stopped. To enter Monkey Mia, you have to pay $12 per person/day. We arrived just in time for the dolphin feeding at 7:45 am. There was another feeding at 8:30 am. In the meantime, we had breakfast. We imagined the whole dolphin experience to be more spectacular, based on what the advertisements promise. Tourists are allowed to stand on the beach and watch the ranger feed the dolphins, and at the end, anyone who wants can throw a fish into the water for the dolphins. In total, we saw 8 of these animals. Swimming is not allowed in the area where the dolphins come daily. Since the associated campsite was also run down and overpriced, we decided to drive on.

We went back to the national park. There we visited a former sheep farm. There was also a pool, which maintains a constant temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. To maintain the continuously flowing warm water, a spring was drilled 540 meters deep and now 170,000 liters of water flow through it daily. After a swim there, we continued on to Shell Beach.

Shell Beach consists entirely of shells. The water at this beach has an extremely high salt content, which is why the shells have formed here.

After this stop, we continued on to a sheep farm, where we also spent the night. We used the rest of the afternoon to rearrange our car. Since it has been quite windy in the past few days and it is supposed to rain more often this week, we plan to sleep in the car more frequently now.
