From the North Cape to Karasjok

Chop etilgan: 12.09.2022

This morning we were woken up by rain at 3°C at the North Cape. We had to turn on the heating for the first time after getting up because officially we were freezing. But for the North Cape, you could describe our weather today as magnificent, especially because the sun occasionally came out and blue sky smiled at us, just not directly above us. The globe was truly existent. So much to say, the statue of the woman with the child, which was erected as part of an action and accompanied by pictures of children from many corners of the world, impressed us even more. In half an hour, we were ready to leave. Unfortunately, today's weather was too unpredictable for Dad and Paul was too sick; - his statement: 'If the rain catches us, we'll be as flat as he is in two days.' - that's why there was no hike to the truly northernmost point of Europe today, and we had to be content with the view from the globe to the land tongue.

Back to the motorhome and off we went through orange-golden forests; always alternating with rain and sun, reindeer and simply fabulous views of fjords and skerries. That's how the quite considerable 280km just flowed by, without becoming exhausting or boring. Our final destination was Karasjok, the capital of the Sami people. Again, a small town that is right on the border of being called a town (just not a village anymore), the Parliament was welcomed with mixed feelings and apparently did not meet everyone's expectations. But it was surprisingly cute, with its triangular shape and wooden boards - of course, this time we were late again and couldn't peek inside, but we are slowly getting used to that now.

After a long decision-making process on how to approach the final leg to Juliane's final destination, we decided to take the route through the inland with just a tiny piece of Finland - we want to have a whole country to explore next time ;)

The quote of the day comes from Juliane in cooperation with Paul and El: 'Where can you find the river? - Where the shadow eats the foot.'
