A coffee of a special kind

I forgot to mention something: We tried Luwak coffee! :-) That is the coffee whose beans are eaten by a small type of civet, the Luwaks, and then expelled again...

The story behind it was also a bit peculiar. We were on the way from Ubud to Singaraja, when a man jumped in front of us on the road at the exit of a small village. "Attention! Police! Police!" We didn't react at all and kept driving. Two minutes later, the man suddenly overtook us on a motorcycle and waved us to the side of the road. He told us that the police were conducting checks in the next village and especially targeting tourists. He strongly recommended us to wait for a while, then they would probably be gone. He offered us to wait at his place and have a coffee until the coast was clear.

All of this seemed quite strange to us and we weren't sure what he was up to... However, since our friend and helper in Bali had already ripped us off once, we finally accepted his offer. When we arrived at the nearby parking lot, he told us that he had a small coffee and tea plantation and wanted to show us around. I was already worried that someone would try to steal our scooters during that time. ;-)

In a forest area near the plantation, he showed us a civet in a cage. But supposedly, this was the only one that was kept in a cage to show it to visitors. All the other animals were supposed to roam freely - who believes that!

He then offered us Luwak coffee, of course at a special price! :-) Along with the coffee, he brought a bunch of little cups with tea and different coffee varieties that we should try. If we like anything, we could buy it from him...

The coffee was really good! And of course, we also let ourselves be talked into buying something... :-)

On the way to Singaraja, we didn't see a single cop (as was actually to be expected). Oh well, that gave us the opportunity to drink the "best coffee in the world" once!
