The connecting flight from Dubai to Bali was far from full. Due to the impending volcanic eruption, there were many empty seats. In most rows, there was only one person, which was very pleasant during the 8.5-hour flight. I passed the time by reading and watching movies, but unfortunately, I couldn't really sleep.
In Denpasar, we landed shortly before 10 pm. First, we had to go to the counter to have our visa stamped, which was already filled out on the plane. After collecting our luggage, we had to queue again to submit the visa before we could leave the airport. There is an ATM outside the exit to get Indonesian Rupiah because it is difficult to find in the area where we live.
Usually, there are already a lot of drivers waiting at the barrier, but it is hard to find your own name among the mass of signs. So I had to have my driver called out at the information desk, as I had simply overlooked him.
If you think that I was soon at my destination, you are mistaken. We drove for another 2.5 hours in an Indonesian minibus through the dark night to finally arrive at the resort at 1:30 am. There were dogs on the road, motorcyclists, and trucks that we had to avoid. The driver kindly had water and food for me, but I was too tired to eat anything, and the winding road would have made it difficult anyway.
My room was warmly lit when I arrived, and the view of the sea showed a romantic reflection of the moonlight. The welcome was successful, and the sound of the waves finally brought me to rest and sleep.
