Nineteenth day

10km north of Melbu - Harstad

120km

20.6km/h average

Good cycling weather, occasional sun, many clouds, no rain

Almost constant tailwind, if only I didn't have to ride all the fjords...

Last night I sat and lay on the cliff until 11:00 enjoying the sun, calm winds, the view, and the sound of the sea. In between, I considered getting my sleeping bag and spending the night on the grassy rocky ledge, but rain was forecast.

On the way back, I met 3 Norwegians with whom I briefly talked. I went to bed at 00:00, the sun was still shining but I was dog tired and quickly fell asleep. Later it actually rained.

The day today didn't start as sunny, but the weather was great for cycling, especially when heading north like us. At first, we rode around the peninsula until we met the E10 again. Then we made good progress on the flat road until Sortland. There we had almost covered 50km in just over 2 hours of riding. After a short second breakfast (the wind was painfully cold), our paths separated. Jonathan continued north to Andenes, I made a detour south, then northeast to Harstad to meet Björn, a former fellow student. It's unusual to ride alone again. I immediately noticed that my traveling speed is much slower. I don't want to always ride at the limit, but rather enjoy more and stop more often. After 120km, a ferry ride, and several fjords, I'm sitting on the promenade in Harstad, waiting for Björn. I'm curious how the reunion will be.
