The Petrified Wave

Today is the start of our South Round. First, we drive inland to Hyden for one night.

The landscape looks different here at first. We drive through forests with different types of trees, including grass trees.

Then we come to agricultural areas - the grain chamber of Western Australia. As far as the eye can see, there are fields and endless plains. Sometimes there are salt lakes in between.

We arrive at our hotel in the early afternoon. Everyone who stays here just wants to see the Wave Rock - the petrified wave. It is a 110 m long and 15 m high granite rock wall in the shape of a wave - about 2.5 billion years old. It is crossed by gray-black stripes created by water runoff. Of course, we have to pose under the impressive wave for photos.

We also explore the large granite hill Hyden Rock behind the wave on a walk. The view from here extends far over the flat land.

We also take a look at the rock formation Hippo's Yawn. It is a small rocky cave from the Aboriginals' story and is supposed to have the shape of a hippo's mouth. But you can't really see that.

We spend the evening blogging to catch up with the current status.

Lately, we have had temperatures between 22°C and 25°C and a lot of wind on the coast. Here in the inland, it is 31°C and no wind. The flies are annoying us again too.

Since we are back in a more populated area, we also meet Germans more often, mainly young people. We have a casual and nice conversation with some of them.
