From Honfleur to Courtils

Mont Saint Michel

Very crowded parking space

We wake up around 7 o'clock and decide to leave before the campers start moving.

Morning view

In the morning, Honfleur is still empty

And the place is still sleepy.

Mussel sellers offer their catch at the harbor.

Morning in Honfleur
Rudy at the harbor

We stop at a bakery and buy baguette and croissants... it smells soooo delicious at the bakery.

Along the Normandy coast

We head towards Deauville where we stop at the beach to have breakfast.

Deauville
Deauville

A rather chic seaside resort with casinos and many old villas.

Since we are relatively early and the French apparently like to sleep in, we make good progress.

We reserve a campsite near Mont Saint Michel online and can check in at 11 o'clock.

A very nice place with lots of trees and greenery and very friendly staff.

After a coffee, we set off on our bikes to see Mt. Saint Michel.

I've always wanted to go there.

We ride about 15 km along the sea, through villages and fields, always with the monastery hill in the background.

On the bridge leading to the monastery hill, then the crowds of people again.

We take a break on the salt marshes with a great view and baguette.

We skip the visit because it's very crowded here too.

On the way back, we pass a German war cemetery, Mont d'Huisnes.

Here lie almost 12,000 fallen soldiers from World War II. It is the only German tomb in France, and when you walk through the rows of graves, you are simply shocked at how young most of the soldiers were and how many unidentified soldiers were buried here.

Back at the camper, we actually wanted to barbecue. The power converter that I had installed is acting up and doesn't work. I'm pretty annoyed because it wasn't cheap.

We get electricity from the campsite, so we can still start the grill.

In the sun under trees with a gentle breeze, the day comes to an end.
