With the Mein Schiff 6 from New York to Jamaica-Ocho Rios

Ku kandziyisiwile: 17.04.2018

Ocho Rios awaits us with heavy rain showers. We didn't imagine Jamaica like this. Quite disappointed, we watched the rain dripping onto the street from the balcony. But it was inevitable and we had to go out into the liquid sunshine for our shore excursion. This one had the melodious name "Green Grotto Caves and Dunn's River Falls". Our tour guide, Chantalle, turned out to be a funny 23-year-old German-speaking student. Together with her, we made our way to the Green Grotto Caves. This underground cave system with stalactites and stalagmites is over 10 miles long and served as a hiding place for slaves fleeing in times of slavery. We were equipped with helmets and could enter the caves with a guide. He showed us not only the stalactites and stalagmites and the underground blue lake, but also the cave's inhabitants like bats, cockroaches, and snakes. It was warmer in the caves than we expected and we sweated quite a bit. But when we left the caves, there was sunshine. So we drove with great anticipation to Dunn's River Falls. The waterfalls can be climbed from bottom to top. They say that whoever climbs up here looks at least 10 years younger. Since Ronald had just turned 45 on this day, he decided to climb while I, at 44 years old, preferred the stairs and photographed Ronald during his climb. It looked quite impressive how the waterfalls poured into the depths. Ronald climbing, always holding onto the chain and hands, on the other hand, looked somehow funny.
