The flight is on time, but the plane is incredibly cramped. LH flies on the Denver route with jumbos that do not have screens in the front seats yet (2011), so you can only watch a movie on the monitor under the ceiling. Although we are not sitting in a real vacation plane, we have to watch cartoons for an hour before we can watch a movie that is really not that great. So it's better to pass the time by reading. We have a great view of Greenland, an ice desert with water around it.
After about 10 hours, we land in Denver a bit bumpy, the immigration process is extremely fast and even supported by German-speaking helpers. The baggage takes time. At Alamo, we decide on a VW Jetta with only about 200 miles on the clock. At 6:00 p.m., we arrive at the pre-booked hotel about 10 minutes drive from the airport. In the distance, you can see the roof of the airport, which is reminiscent of Indian tepees.
Only vastness around us and snow-covered peaks in the distance. The cloud formation is gigantic, fresh air, the hotel has windows that can be opened.
Since it is G.'s birthday, we want to at least go out to eat something before we probably collapse. According to our German sense of time, we are 8 hours further. We sit in a restaurant at 7:00 p.m. that does not serve beer, but that doesn't matter because we decide on oatmeal with raisins. For us, it is now 3 a.m., so it's more like breakfast... We are in bed at 8:45 p.m., it gets very cold at night.
