#52: Excursion to Phuket

To get to know the island outside of Karon Beach, today we rent a scooter. Conveniently, our rental has scooters available and gives us a good price.

We set off in the morning. We still have vivid memories of the chaotic traffic in Chiang Mai, so we are not afraid anymore. Besides a few short wrong-way rides, driving on the left side of the road isn't a problem either.

First, we head south to the Karon View Point, which offers a great view of Kata and Karon Beach. Then we head back north. We make various stops at beaches and the tourist hotspot Patong Beach. Patong Beach is completely overrun by tourists, so we don't stay long. The smaller and more remote beaches away from the tourist crowds are more inviting. For example, we find a coral reef that only appears during low tide, and also a beautiful bay that we might visit on our next scooter trip. At the Surin Beach, the last beach we visit, we settle down for lunch. We enjoy some delicious Thai food.

Then we head back to the hostel. Along the way, we take a wrong turn and end up driving a few kilometers inland. There, we navigate roads that resemble roller coasters. These roads are the steepest and windiest we have encountered so far. Riding the scooter becomes even more fun!

In the evening, we return to the hostel. We jump into the sea once more, have dinner, and end the day.
