After a sunny evening yesterday, we wake up this morning with rain. So we can have a cozy breakfast and discuss our route for today, as according to the weather app, the sun is expected to come out soon. We decide to head south, with the goal of Apelviken, a place on the coast. We want to be guided and surprised by what we discover. On the way, we discover the Getteron Nature Reserve, one of the best bird watching spots in Northern Europe. It is located 2 km north of Varberg city center in the Halland province in Western Sweden. The wetlands are a paradise for birds and birdwatchers. Around 170 species nest or rest here every year. In addition, there are a variety of other temporary guests. 339 species have been counted on Getterön so far. There are often rare birds from far away to be discovered, staying on Getterön and in the surrounding area. Apelviken, our destination for the day, has a wide, one kilometer long sandy beach with dunes, south of Varberg center. Those who like to walk or cycle can cover the whole distance on a magnificent coastal path. Three groups of vacationers feel particularly comfortable in Apelviken: families with children, all kinds of surfers, and people who like to walk or cycle and want to relax.
