Week 1 Start of the journey (Germany, Northern Poland)

Nai-publish: 17.08.2019

Wow, we made it! Finally getting into the van and leaving our familiar home behind.

First, we ended up on the island of Rügen, where we were able to visit a very beautiful rustic farm through Landvergnügen, where we spent the first night. For those who don't know, Landvergnügen is an association of many farms in Germany that let campers stay for free for one night on their farm to potentially promote their farm store and their homemade products to the camper community. You can find the farms in a parking guide. But now back to the first night... Thanks to our hosts, our journey started off very cool. We were immediately invited to a barbecue and spent the evening chatting with the hosts and other guests at the bar in the garden.

The next morning, we immediately headed to Usedom, as we had wanted to go to a drive-in theater for two years. Awesome experience! We can recommend it! It was a lot of fun and for 16€, including the overnight stay at the cinema site, it was a bargain. 'The Goldfish' was showing.

On the third day of the journey, we drove to Poland via Swinoujscie. Always directly along the Baltic Sea, so you can't get lost 😉. Our destination was Wicie, as it was supposed to have endless sandy beaches. When we arrived there, we found an abandoned airstrip where we could spend the night comfortably.

The next day, we continued to Leba, as there were supposed to be many sand dunes. For the equivalent of 13 euros, we checked into a small campsite and the next morning we went through the forest and along the beach towards the dunes. For a small fee, you could take one of the many electric taxis, but we decided to walk. After all, it was almost 20 kilometers with everything included. Along the way, we once again walked on one of the beautiful Polish sandy beaches, where there is fine sand as far as the eye can see.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, the large wandering dunes appeared, which move 12 meters eastward each year. Parts of the old village have already been swallowed up by one of the dunes. They didn't stop at a forest either, only a few branches were still visible. It was all very impressive, but unfortunately, the many tourists had the same plan as us, which made it a bit challenging.

After another pleasant night in Leba, we continued to Gdansk. Here, we followed the tip of our wedding officiant Herbert and his wife Gabi and went to a small campsite on the outskirts of the beach, where we could stand in a small pine forest.

From there, we took a bus and train to the city center for sightseeing. Mainly, we explored the old town, which definitely has its charm.

Our highlight were the traditional pierogies. They were all filled differently and simply amazing.

Next week, we will be heading to the area of a thousand lakes. The Masuria region. Before that, we just need to buy some fresh ammunition for our Thermacell device (which we received as a gift for the trip from dear Luisa and Soren). Thank you both so much. This thing serves as mosquito repellent and works really well.
