Hello everyone,
The journey is done. Nearly 28 hours after I got up in Fischen, I was in bed in Oxford... In between, most things went really well. The flight from Munich to Atlanta was good. A bit small and only English movies. Next to me was a DHBW graduate from 2015. Field of study? Business Administration - Logistics! Coincidences happen, right?
After arriving in Atlanta, chaos ensued. Fortunately, we had a 4-hour layover, and we made full use of it. We arrived at the gate less than half an hour before the next flight because we spent more than 2(!) hours at immigration... Before and after us, everyone missed their flights because the layover times to South America were much shorter... When we finally arrived in Memphis at 7:00 p.m., the first message on my phone was that my suitcase will only arrive on the next flight. So there were 2 options: 1. Take the shuttle at 7:30 and wait for our suitcase until Friday, or 2. Wait for our suitcase at 9:30 and take the last shuttle at 11:30. Franzi and I decided on the latter. So it was waiting time. The eyes became heavy, but we met a lot of super cool people who were sharing the same suffering. The bus arrived at 10:45 p.m., but it didn't leave until 12:15. However, I didn't notice any of it because I used the whole time to sleep.
Finally, at 2 o'clock, I was in my room. As expected, it's definitely not luxury, but acceptable. Unfortunately, there is absolutely NOTHING here, and you have to buy everything. Even a router... So I unpacked my suitcase and finally went to bed at 3 o'clock. However, I was already awake at half past 7... In the morning, I met my roommates, 2 Germans and a Frenchman. There is no wire transfer here, only payment by check or credit card. Where did I end up? :) This morning, 3 painters were in the room for a moment and then left after 5 minutes. WTF?
The first day was fully planned. Brunch at 10, campus tour at 11, tuberculosis test at 1. Then a bit of free time, in which I got myself a bicycle. Now at 4 o'clock, I'm going to Walmart, and from 6 to 8, there's a welcome event. I'm excited to see what awaits me! Friday is already full, and on Saturday, we're going to Memphis. There are events planned every day. So we're kept busy.
I'll do my best to keep you updated!
Best regards,
Franz
