Yesterday, the 1000-year history of Wrocław was the theme. Today, I wanted to get an overview of this period of art history. So, I'm going to the National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe we Wrocławiu).

But before that, I was somewhere else, at a place that seemed quite peculiar for this time of year. See for yourself:

Now quickly get out of there, over two Odra bridges and off to the National Museum...
National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe we Wrocławiu)
Essentially, it's about Silesian, but also Polish and European visual arts, from around 1200 to about 1900. At first, it's a bit confusing: you mostly see works by German artists (artysta niemiecki), but it kind of makes sense.
Somehow, I couldn't relate to what was shown. It smells, the floor creaks terribly, you are chased by the staff and constantly directed in the right direction. Just when it starts to get interesting, the exhibition is over - and the contemporary art section is not accessible (yet). There's hammering and drilling - just like almost everywhere in Wrocław...
This will certainly not be my favorite place, so let's go directly to the center of Wrocław's avant-garde:

That was really interesting. Ukrainian artist groups are presented there:
The events there have obviously set a lot in motion - and let some skaters take off ;-)
Then it closed at 6 p.m. - unfortunately. I was annoyed that I spent so much time at the old ham in the National Museum...
Rynek
Time for the Rynek. This time, the east side was the subject of closer examination. Since I always proceed very precisely, I started at the ice cream parlor at the northern end ;-)
Kino nowe horyzonty
Wrocław is the European Capital of Culture 2016 (Wroclaw Europejska Stolica Kultury). Some cinemas offer a special program:
Pure cultural cinema! I'm thrilled! Of course, I was particularly interested in the Polish film, but because of the language barrier, only this one was possible this week:
Berlinale, Silver Bear - with Isabelle Huppert.
Original version in French, with Polish and English subtitles - especially for foreigners, so for me ;-)
