The plan is good: through the Czech Republic and Austria to Italy and then straight across the Alps to the east for three weeks.
But then it turns out differently: the clutch of the robber's cave breaks down on the day of departure! Not only that, Zappa's car gets stuck on the left-turn lane on Braunschweiger Leonhardstrasse and he has to contact ADAC again. No, the workshop, which is no longer so big in trust, announces a three-week waiting time - at least! Our three vacation weeks, completely lost!
We have understanding colleagues and accommodating employers and can postpone the vacation for four weeks on the first day, where else does that happen? Thanks again for that!
The new plan is also good: in mid-September it can get quite chilly in the Alps, so we've been planning to revisit the classic France: Provence, Côte d'Azur, Camargue.
But it turns out differently: two weeks before departure, these very regions are declared risk areas by the Foreign Office due to Corona.
Well, France is not so small and there are still the Jura, Burgundy, Auvergne, the Massif Central in general, Ardèche and Cèze, so there is still plenty of space without the virus.
But it turns out differently: two days before departure, these beautiful regions are also declared risk areas!
And now what?
There is Italy, which we haven't discovered yet, and the wonderful island of Sardinia, which we have only visited once. So let's go there. We can still book ferry tickets from Livorno while on the road, and we can also submit the Corona entry form 48 hours in advance with modern technology. Zappa is already googling beautiful places by the sea.
But it turns out differently: on the day of our departure, the Sardinian government decides that all tourists must present a negative Corona test upon entry, not older than 48 hours!
Now we need Plan XYZ - so we set off south, following our noses, let's see where the journey takes us in this cursed year...
