Ab durch die Wüste

Çap edildi: 17.06.2018

Since we unfortunately have hardly any internet anywhere and the mobile reception is not always available, I can only upload the blog entries when we have Wi-Fi somewhere.

After Lucky Bay, there was a long time with nothing: Welcome to the Nullarbor Plain!

We were not really aware of what to expect, so we filled up all our fuel and water canisters and set off. On the first day, Jonas finally got his money's worth and we drove off-road for the first time, about 250km. At first, the road was like a normal dirt road, later it turned into a bumpy ride and we could only drive at about 30km/h. We realized that we were now a bit off the beaten track when we arrived at a rest stop and the guy there wanted a whopping 10$ for a shower. We decided to keep driving and finally found a campsite for the same price including a shower. For the next two days, we sat in the car with only a few short breaks and drove through the dreary landscape. Sometimes the vegetation was quite lush, sometimes there was nothing but a few small shrubs. Here we got to feel the incredible dimensions of this continent for the first time. We also drove on the longest straight road in Australia. It went a whopping 90 miles straight ahead... In three days, we drove about 1600km. Keep in mind that the speed limit here is 110km/h and by around 4:30 pm we had to look for a place to spend the night, as it is not recommended to drive at night due to the many animals on the road. This seems quite logical to us, as the big road trains also drive through the night and leave an incredible battlefield on the roads. About every 3 kilometers, you can see a dead kangaroo lying on the side of the road = (

So we spent three days just in the car, slept in the tent in bad weather, had no mobile reception, and I felt like we were completely cut off from the world. Welcome to the desert!!
