We continue our road trip to the south and have to use 2 car ferries due to the lack of bridges. The ranger informed us that building bridges here doesn't make much sense as the islands are constantly moving and the ferry routes change due to sandbanks.
At 10 o'clock we arrived at the first (free) ferry, confident that we would also reach the second (paid and pre-reserved) ferry from Ocracoke at 1 o'clock. We stood in line to board for a long time and spent much more time on the water than planned. In the end, we just made it and were very relieved.....the next ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island would have left 3 hours later.
My initial fears of seasickness were unfounded. With calm seas, it was 2 pleasant crossings with plenty of time for photography and conversations with open-minded American fellow travelers.
We have now arrived safely at our hotel in Swansboro and witnessed a wonderful sunset with all colors by the water. 🌆
The next planned stop is Charleston (with an overnight stay in between). However, there is currently a storm warning for the Charleston area, so we are considering taking a different route........
