A soulless night ends with a breakfast with metal knife and fork. Hurray. It's really lovely how this hotel is run. Grace from the reception is still standing and seems to have worked a 24-hour shift. But she's in a good mood just like last night.
The town has only 5000 inhabitants but is full of history. It is considered the birthplace and deathbed of the Civil War, although nobody died here. One historical building follows another, and during my short tour, I count seven churches. But there may be more. This place is exactly to my taste. Nice people, nice pubs, and not overcrowded.
Maria, who is responsible for tourists at the city council, tells us countless stories about the events here, and you can tell how passionate she is about this place. What a contrast to that weird woman from 2 days ago.
It's a pity that we're leaving this place so quickly, but we still have one night in Atlanta and then it's off to San Diego. The drive there takes 2 1/2 hours, and you can feel the proximity to the big city. The highway and traffic are huge as we enter downtown.
The Airbnb is absolutely amazing. 2000 square meters of luxury. And right in the middle of everything. Only when we go out in the evening, we realize that we're not staying in the safest area. The restaurants all seem to be closed, and there are strange people hanging around on the street. So we book an Uber in a parking lot, which takes us to a food mall. Unfortunately, everything closes at 9:00 PM. It's typical in America and even more pronounced due to COVID. Hardly any restaurant stays open late. So we get take away and laugh our heads off about this strange evening.
We enjoy our meal in the atmosphere of the incredible apartment, and the view of the skyline at night from the roof is quite impressive. Tom and Jen have to get up early tomorrow, so we don't stay up late. I'm also pretty tired. The big city is just exhausting.
