Day 21: Exploring Hoi An's charming old town

After a good night's sleep, we went back to the courtyard terrace for breakfast the next morning. We sat there with Simon, a German guy we had met the previous night. He arrived at the homestay on his motorcycle, which he is using to travel all over Vietnam for eight weeks. The three of us chatted about various topics, and the morning flew by. Eventually, breakfast came to an end, and we hopped on the accommodation's bicycles and headed towards the city in the early afternoon. Once there, we visited Hoi An's main attractions. We started by walking across the Japanese Bridge and admiring the neighborhood with its many small shops hidden behind it. Then we passed by the Chinese assembly halls and continued to the huge Hoi An Food Market. There, we found not only vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish but also various other items such as toys and leather goods. Naturally, we had to try one of the delicious street food stalls there and enjoyed steamed eggplants and incredibly tasty vegetarian spring rolls. After that, we took a short break at a small temple and sat by the river, tasting the fruit we had bought at the market. To escape the sun, we then returned to the accommodation and spent the rest of the afternoon doing some sports. In the evening, we used the bicycles again to visit the night market and grab something to eat. Fortunately, on our way to the city, we also witnessed a beautiful sunset. We arrived in the old town at the blue hour and could observe the many colorful lanterns and boats on the river, which now stood out nicely. Afterwards, we had dinner at the small terrace of a restaurant, from where we had a good view of the lively Hoi An.
