Tag 2 - Diving on Isla del Cano and a little timeout (13.02.2022)

Since the author is feeling unwell due to a stomach bug today, the photographer will be taking on the role of the narrator for today.

Today, we started our day very early again - 06:20 wake-up call. After Johannes had a restless night - already feeling a bit under the weather, getting up was a bit harder than the previous day. Nevertheless, we were very excited to see what the underwater world had in store for us today. Fingers crossed for whales and manta rays.

After a short walk, we arrived at the dive school and had to put on all our equipment again (but that was the only thing that wasn't perfectly organized - so a big recommendation for Costa Rica Dive&Surf at this point). Energized with banana bread and coffee, we headed to the beach to board the "La Diabla" which would take us to Cano Island for the second day in a row, in about 60 minutes. This time, we were lucky to encounter dolphins and two turtles on the way. A very good start to the day.

After our successful dives yesterday, the dive guide asked us if we wanted to do more challenging dives (more current, but also a chance to see more big fish) and he didn't have to ask us twice. The dive site was called Diablo and yes, the current was really strong. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy the dive and admire some sharks, rays, and many small fish.

After a snack with pineapple and melon, we went to the "Anchor" - the second dive. A beautiful coral landscape, a turtle, and about seven huge stingrays were waiting for us at around 15m depth. What more could you ask for - the two dives were very successful.

After a super tasty vegetarian burrito and banana bread, we returned to land after 60 minutes. At the dive school, we took care of some organizational tasks (diving logbook entry) and then we went straight home. Resting is on the agenda.

The highlight of the afternoon was actually just a long nap and the opportunity to finally watch the Super Bowl at a "human" time. So, our day ends with a self-cooked dinner (pasta, because the kitchen doesn't offer more) and resting is planned for tomorrow, so that hopefully the author can take over again soon.

The Daily Two:

Insight: In order for us to have home-cooked food today, Kathi went to the nearby supermarket and got the essentials. It was surprising that everyday products have similar prices to those in Austria. With an average salary of €562 per month in Costa Rica, it raises the question of how the locals manage to afford such high living costs.

Moment of happiness: When during the second dive, we thought we saw a really big stingray lying on the bottom and suddenly seven stingrays emerged from the sand on the seabed. A completely unexpected goosebumps moment.
