BLOG 2 - From Graz to Washington Pass

ተሓቲሙ: 12.07.2022

Fortunately, we are not affected by the current turbulence of airports and airlines. Graz - Frankfurt was punctual and the more than 10-hour flight from Frankfurt to Seattle was only 20 minutes delayed - and above all: all our suitcases arrived and, moreover, among the first at the baggage carousel. Waiting time at immigration: 0 minutes (!) - done very quickly, no questions about vaccination, etc.

The next morning we are plagued by jetlag (9 hours time difference) but we can pick up our truck camper (almost new, only the second rental) quite early.

After that, of course, a visit to Walmart for the first supplies, and then we can drive past Seattle with only a few traffic jams heading north. We take a ferry to Whidbey Island - in the very north of this island we spend the first night in the camper in Deception Pass State Park, which is described as idyllic. On a short evening walk, we can confirm that the landscape is idyllic, but the impression is greatly marred by the infernal noise of many low-flying US Navy fighter jets from the base on the island. At least there is some peace and quiet at night.

The next morning we continue along Highway 20 - but now heading northeast to North Cascade National Park. It really lives up to its name: rushing streams and many waterfalls in a wild landscape, the lakes are all reservoirs from hydroelectric power plants, but they fit very well into the landscape. Our evening hike, which lasts over 2 hours, takes us a stretch along the Thunder Knob Trail to a viewpoint of Mount Logan (2733 m high).

After a peaceful night, we continue on Highway 20 / North Cascades Scenic Highway to Washington Pass (1640 m high). Now we are heading to the Canadian border.

PS: I'm having some trouble uploading the photo here. The WLAN connection is not very good....
