Hello everyone, it's been a while since my last entry. After the exciting and eventful first few weeks, things have been more relaxed lately. But it was definitely needed.
After leaving Johannesburg, I headed south towards the coast to the city of Durban. For a change, I treated myself to an Airbnb. It was really nice not to sleep in a dorm room for once 😂 I didn't do much in Durban, but I liked the city.
However, I do have a story to tell about my stay in Durban... I got robbed 😱. Luckily, it was only by a monkey 😂. The monkey snuck into my apartment one morning (I had left the door open) and stole my freshly bought bananas. Before I could even realize what was happening, the monkey was already sitting on the roof of my accommodation, enjoying its loot. Since then, I always kept the door closed 😂.
After Durban, I drove to the small town of St. Lucia. It's a beautiful town but very touristy. I took the opportunity to go on a whale-watching tour here. It was truly an impressive tour... seeing whales up close is simply incredible. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any photos of the whales because I got seasick due to the waves 😅 Nevertheless, it was a nice experience.
After enjoying a few days on the beach in Durban and St. Lucia, I headed to the Drakensberg mountains. Again, I can only say that it's an incredibly beautiful area. I spent the days hiking and took a day trip to Lesotho via the Sani Pass. It was a very exciting experience to drive up the pass in a jeep that consisted of nothing but a rocky road. Our guide called the drive on the pass 'African massage' because it was so bumpy 😀.
On my last day, it got really cold. The temperature dropped from sunny 28 degrees to 6 degrees and rain. However, the advantage was that the next morning, the mountain peaks were covered in snow ☺️.
Currently, I'm in East London. I'll be staying here until Monday. My journey will then continue to Port Alfred and Port Elizabeth.
