On our ride with the DASH Trolley, we suddenly discovered 'Queology' near the port of Charleston. Actually, we were just looking for a bar, but hey, we definitely don't say no to BBQ, so we went into the place that looked rather inconspicuous from the outside. There was both an indoor and outdoor area for guests. The menu was kept quite simple and consisted mainly of pork and poultry. They said they rarely smoke beef. The pitmaster told us that he actually came from Pennsylvania and learned Hole Hog BBQ (smoking whole pig) there. Here at Queology, he uses the Boston Butt for pulled pork. They smoke it with hickory.
Steffi ordered a mixed salad with pulled pork, while I decided on pulled pork, coleslaw, and baked beans. The food was served relatively quickly and made a good impression right away. Steffi was completely satisfied with her choice. I also liked it, although the pulled pork may have been slightly overcooked. The beans, unfortunately, had no meat addition, but they had a good taste. The coleslaw was also delicious, especially since the base was not just heavy mayonnaise, but a mixture of a little mayo and vinegar, plus black pepper and celery seeds (I love celery seeds in slaw). In addition, two small buns were served, so you could build your own little burgers. There were three different BBQ sauces available: Memphis style (sweet and slightly sour), Kansas City style (sweet and spicy), and Carolina mustard (mustardy and spicy), so basically a mix of different BBQ styles. They also had various beers from breweries in Charleston. Overall, I was really satisfied with our choice. We can definitely recommend Queology! Price-wise, it was also perfectly fine.
