and thus the end of our New Zealand journey. In conclusion, we find that 5 weeks in New Zealand are too short. On the other hand, being away from home for 5 weeks is also an achievement, especially since another 5 weeks will be added in Australia.
The next destination, Akaroa, is located on a peninsula in front of Christchurch and has about 650 inhabitants, which will increase to 7000 in the local summer. Akaroa was settled by the French, which is why there are still French street names, such as Rue Jolie.
This reminds me of a little episode. I got into a conversation with one of the vintage car friends here at the holiday park. He told me about his trip to Europe - Germany, Switzerland, and France. He liked Germany because everyone could speak English. France was not a good experience. He said something like: All French people out of France, then it's a beautiful country. He was very annoyed that no one spoke English in the hotels either. It's been a while since he was in Europe. And it wasn't even a question that everyone should speak English. Okay, it's just the internationally common language for communication.
We have now arrived in Akaroa. There are actually many French influences here. Our motel is right on the arm of the sea. We were lucky again. Two rooms with 4 beds - so if someone wants to visit us spontaneously!
A small bathroom and a small kitchen with a dining area are also available. You can get a little impression from the photos.
We have also taken a walk in the small town. You can book trips to see the dolphins here or there are trips where you can swim with the dolphins. There is apparently a spot in the sea where they gather.
