1st December - Mermaid sighted

Today we wanted to take the ferry from Hillarys to Rottnest. This is a car-free island, right here off the coast. But we had no chance. Apparently, all crossings have to be booked online in advance. Maybe we can still manage that. Meanwhile, we have discovered the somewhat hidden switch where you can get tickets for the crossing to Rottnest Island. We got two tickets for tomorrow morning and also rented two bicycles. We're leaving at 10 o'clock.

Today we wandered around here in Hillarys. Beach, boathouse, and a relatively new huge complex with 'restaurants' and shops. Restaurants here are more like fast food places or snack bars, in our understanding. 

In this complex, there was a nature conservation organization with a snake that Stephanie petted and a koala that she of course also petted. There is a photo of the latter. I didn't take a picture of the snake. It's just not likeable.

In the summer, in about three weeks, there will probably be so many people here that you won't be able to get away. 

At around 4 p.m. we were back at our hotel and were surprised: Techno pool party right under our balcony. GREAT.
