19.12 Cathedral Cove, Tauranga, Mt. Maunganui, sunny in the morning, light rain in the afternoon

After breakfast around 9:00 am, start the hike to Cathedral Cove. We hike through a rainforest with giant ferns, palm trees, and many blooming unknown plants for about 40 minutes until we reach the beach with the beautiful rock formations. Spend the morning at this magnificent beach, Malte builds farms in the sand. Continue driving towards Tauranga. Today we want to cover a larger distance. Arrival in Tauranga, rush hour. We divert to the neighboring town of Mt. Maunganui. The town is located on an elongated peninsula and is surrounded by water on 2 sides. At the end of the peninsula, Mt. Maunganui, about 750m high, towers. We buy groceries at Countdown and drive to one of the many picnic spots to barbecue dinner (burger with vegetables). Before spending the night, we stop at the camping site to ask where there is a dumping station (waste water and fresh water for motorhomes). The lady at the reception didn't know, but we were allowed to refill and drain at the camping site. We spend the night in a residential area.
