Day 2 Consuma: lost in the deep forest

The day begins with a very beautiful uphill stretch. There are two small towns on the way (Duacetto and Ferrano) and only a few farms in a picturesque landscape. Then follows a 10-kilometer-long path through the mountain forest. And here again the problem from yesterday: useless markings, inadequate descriptions in the hiking guide and Google Map, which is completely out of sorts. Personal orientation is no longer possible here. I try using GPS, but have to download it again, but there is no internet reception anymore.

And maybe sleep outside

I now seriously consider spending the night here. But then I decide to go back to the bus stop about 10 kilometers away and take the bus. In Consuma, the hotel mentioned in the guidebook no longer exists; it closed two years ago. The local pilgrims' hostel is fully booked. In my mind I see myself sleeping outside again, but after several gentle attempts the innkeeper manages to persuade a rather strange lady to let me stay in her room.

And at the end a hearty evening

Eight pilgrims at one table, cooked for by the innkeeper, can create a very cheerful atmosphere. And everyone (except me, all of them experienced pilgrims) had the same problem in the forest. Everyone could tell their own personal heroic story and everyone was happy to have somehow arrived.
