We leave our place by the lake and head towards the last full day. We want to end it in Sterling... first something fun for the kids (parents: boring), Safari Park! Here you can find everything from rhinos to lemurs that you can't already find in Schönbrunn, but at least it's not crowded (guess why: bad weather). The park is very beautifully designed and there is also a part where you can drive into the enclosures with your car. A rhino almost smashes our already damaged motorhome... luckily everything turns out fine. However, we have bad luck: when we try to leave, our monster can't get out of the muddy grass. Felix tries to push like the Highlander himself... but all we manage to do is create holes in the English (sorry, Scottish) lawn (yes, even the parking spaces are perfectly trimmed to the millimeter).
The Scots are used to all of this, so we find someone at the park authority who simply tows us out with their pickup truck... once again proving that the Scots are really nice and helpful people.
But now it's time for something fun for the parents (kids: boring)... Sterling Castle and Wallace Monument. The castle is an impressive well-preserved castle on the hill with a great view. The National Wallace Monument is a tower on Abbey Craig that tells the story of William Wallace and is meant to commemorate the Battle of Stirling Bridge (the Scots dealt a heavy blow to the English). We decide to watch Braveheart at home again and settle down at the local campsite.
In the evening, we have an excellent filet steak from Angus beef at Birds an Bees (a pub near the campsite)... the first time we've had really good food here!
Tomorrow we will return the motorhome... last night in the camping bed!
