First day without a camper trip and the alarm clock still rang early.
Airlie Beach is considered the starting point for tours to the “Whitsundays”, consisting of 74 islands with tons of rainforest, hiking trails and really beautiful white sandy beaches - fantastic!
So we joined a guided boat tour and hoisted the sails early in the morning to set anchor at the Great Barrier after a 45-minute journey. Equipped with stinger suits (jellyfish season starts in November) and diving equipment, we snorkeled in turquoise water and observed the colorful fish and corals. After the last fish had had enough of our presence and had left, we made a short stop in a small bay with a viewpoint.
For lunch there were wraps and pasta salad on the famous “Whiteheaven Beach”, which was named the whitest sand beach in the world in 2020 according to Tripadvisor. To digest things, we walked to a viewpoint, which was nice but, at least for Chris, didn't 100% meet his needs.
We took a quick swim and then set off on the hour-long journey back by speedboat, past many islands, some of which are inhabited with private villas and resorts. Two dolphins were our last highlight at the end of the tour. We quickly washed the sand off our bodies in the lagoon and ended the evening back at the campsite.
