Thursday 27th September

I got out of bed well in the morning, first I went to the free breakfast and then I talked to Christian about doing the work permit for construction site safety and health (White Card in Queensland) together. It took pretty much the whole day and also took the translation help from Henry, a Brit. Otherwise, I made myself comfortable and browsed a bit on gumtree (eBay classifieds in Australia).

Friday 28th September

For the White Card, we also had to pass an audio test and answer questions by recording. In the afternoon, I read a very interesting ad on gumtree. A family is looking for someone to take care of the house, as two children are in school and the parents are working full-time, preferably German. It sounded tempting and I called right away. This was my first phone call in English and I felt very helpless while speaking, but luckily Hanna was Austrian and we could speak German very well.

After the phone call, I went straight there and 1.5 hours later I met Hanna, Samuel, and Katja Spencer. Matt, the father, was still at work. They made a very sympathetic impression and I could start on Monday afternoon. Free accommodation, food & drink, and in return, participate in family life and keep the house clean. A very, very good deal from my point of view. In the evening, I went out with friends to party. First, we pre-drinked with Goon (Australian cheap wine) and then went to Gilligan's to drink and celebrate. On the way home, I got hungry and went to McDonald's and treated myself to a large McMenu. Then it was off to bed.

Saturday, 29th September

Today I checked out of the hostel and checked in again in the afternoon. That also means changing rooms and I got a 4-bed room with more stable beds. There were also two girls in it, with whom I had a little small talk. I didn't have much to do all day, so I mostly stayed in bed and watched videos. Lazy day! In the evening, the girls got all dolled up for the party, and I'm happy to say it again, "I'm glad to be a man and not have any problems with clothing, makeup, and beauty products."

Sunday, 30th September

Today I also had a cozy day. I went for a run on the beach promenade and exhausted myself for a total of 2 hours, but that was it.
