Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is a small island which is separated in the middle by "The Split". The more lively part, where we had our hostel, could be crossed with little effort and in a few steps we were already at the sea.

The island lives by the motto "go slow" and that is fully lived by the locals. You see many Rasta-men, who gladly shout the saying at you. In general, as a woman, you receive a lot of attention from the locals, which I personally didn't like.

On the island itself, there wasn't much to do except jump into the cool water, but the sunsets were beautiful.

On the second day, we booked a snorkeling tour. At the first stop, we got to feed "baby Barracudas" with a dead fish, and then we could look at small seahorses from the beach. Then finally we went into the water. Belize hosts the second largest barrier reef after Australia, and it was amazing. We could see many corals and different fish, we didn't want to leave the water, but still we went on to the next stop. To the nurse sharks and stingrays. Unfortunately, they were being fed, but it was still amazing to be in the water surrounded by 1-2m sharks. But both we and the sharks kept a safe distance from each other. At the last stop, we received a guided tour, where our guide pointed out different fish to us and told us their names, although I can't remember them anymore.

The next day, there wasn't much going on, so we spent the day doing laundry and a little bit on the beach, where we also enjoyed the sunset in the evening and went to bed early.

In the morning, we took the bus to Flores in Guatemala.
