Small Circuit

What we didn't consider, of course, is that we only booked two nights in our accommodation. And since we want to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat this morning (like many others), we have to get up at 4 o'clock in the morning, pack our things, shake the owner out of bed again, and then take the Tuk Tuk with our luggage into the city, where we drop off our backpacks at the new hostel and then go directly to the temple, where a huge crowd of people has the same plan as we do.

I personally imagined the sunrise completely differently: first everything is dark, then the horizon turns red-orange, and then the sun suddenly appears from the ground, this woooowww effect. Well, in reality it's also spectacular, but a little different. It's already bright for ages before the sun even comes up, and it's only a little bit orange, mainly yellow. And it rises behind the temple, not from the ground. But as I said, it's still really beautiful! Later we go to another temple, called Ta Prohm, which is special because it's completely overgrown with trees, which is definitely my favorite. The trees grow on top of the stone and the roots break the stones apart, I find it so impressive. And it's also quite flat, so you don't have to climb as much. There's only one thing that really ruins Ta Prohm for us: the tourists. To be fair, we're also tourists, but these crowds of people who only come to take great selfies and push through everywhere without consideration are just not nice. Eventually we can't stand it anymore and leave, but I think it was definitely worth it! Later there are two small temples that are small but quite empty, which is really a nice change of pace.

So we end our second day in Angkor and I have to say, the temples are definitely worth a visit. Mega beautiful, impressive, and just fantastic!

Now we're going to the hostel, check in, and then to a bar with a free pool to cool off! We're also really looking forward to dinner, because Keith and Ben have just arrived and we're going out together again in the evening, which is always really nice and cozy.
