This morning, as soon as it was light, voices and commotion could be heard. The people here live by daylight. Yesterday we had a frog as a picture frame above the bed and we were greeted by a bat in the toilet. Wildlife, you know. Opening your eyes and looking at the Amazon, magnificent.
At 7:30 our boat left for fishing for piranhas. Yesterday we declined swimming in the Amazon, for obvious reasons. He showed us the best way to catch them. Farina was really shocked when she actually had a fish on the hook after a while. It was a dogfish, but still good. After my first attempts, I tried again. And behold, wow, a little piranha was on the hook. We looked at it, and then it was allowed to go back into the water.
Short stop in Puerto Narino, then an hour-long boat ride to Mocagua. Also a nice little community on the Amazon. Here we visited a monkey sanctuary. Monkeys that are often found by the police in Colombia, Peru or Brazil are brought here. Unfortunately, they are often wrongfully kept as pets. When they cause problems, they are then handed over. Crazy world.
Afterwards, we received instructions on how to braid a bracelet. I felt like I was back in elementary school, I never finished the pot holders on my own. 😅
In Puerto Narino, we said goodbye to Judith, our translator, and the guides who were in the office at the time.
The time here in the Amazon was a beautiful experience. The people are very open, they live in very modest conditions, and yet they are very hospitable. It is a life with nature.
Once again, a big thank you for being able to experience all this.
