Happy New Year 2020 🥳🥂🌌
We wish all loyal companions a healthy, new year!
After deciding on December 23rd to cancel our booked accommodation due to the bushfires, we found ourselves in Sydney on December 29th. Much to the delight of Mir (Ulli 🥳). Falk had to go along somehow.
So on December 29th, we drove to Sydney and spent the first night in the parking lot of a park. Unfortunately, the city is not equipped with any free camper sites and the paid ones were all full. The next day, we went on a 'spot' search for December 31st. Fireworks were on the agenda. With a lot of luck, we found a spot for us and the next 2 nights - on the street that feels like the only one without parking limits. After that, we went sightseeing. Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Hyde Park - we fell in love 🥰❤️ what a great city!!!!
The next day, we took it easy. Well, there was a bit of stress - will we get a spot? Will it be crowded? And so on...
To pass the time, we went to the swimming pool - the Olympic Pool. What a cool place. We bought the ticket and the shower token - and we wanted to leave around 3:30. We were especially looking forward to taking a shower, because we only had cat baths for the last few days 🐱. That was the plan. But things always turn out differently than you think. And that's exactly what happened:
2:45 pm - let's check when the last ferry leaves. Wasn't it at 5 pm? Yeah, I think so.
2:47 pm - Google says the last ferry from here leaves at 3 pm 🤯😳.
2:49 pm - we've never gotten dressed and left the pool so quickly.
2:51 pm - 'Last ferry for today'.
2:55 pm - we're on the ferry and realize that we forgot a t-shirt.
PHEW, that was close.
4 pm - we were sitting in our camping chairs at our spot, passing the time and talking to grandmas, parents, and siblings.
At 9 pm, there was a 'children's fireworks'. It was pretty cool. And then the time had come...50 sec, 40 sec, 30 sec - GoPro on, battery almost empty - should we change the battery or not - Falk searches in his pocket, 20 sec, 15 sec - wrong battery outside, 10, 9, 8...doesn't matter now..
Happy 2020!! What a fireworks display. After almost 15 minutes, everything was over and it was worth it.
So welcome to the new year.
January 1, 2020 started at Bondi Beach. THE beach par excellence. Well, with fewer people it would deserve a prize. On the way there, we took our first private tour of Sydney today. The lady in the navigation system was always too slow or imprecise. The second tour followed on the way back 😬😂🤭.
After having to change our parking space last minute for tonight, we are now lying exhausted in bed and listening to the sea.
