This morning we continued into the high mountains of Costa Rica. The drive was exciting: first from the coastal mountains down into the large central valley, where pineapples and sugarcane are grown on a large scale, through the ugly regional city of San Isidro and then into the highest areas up to about 3000m. It immediately became cool and foggy in some places. But it also cleared up again and gave way to sensational views. Unfortunately, this doesn't come across in the photos.
Then our accommodation for tonight: The Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge. Beautiful bungalows with floor-to-ceiling windows. There's even heating here and ethanol fireplaces. It gets freezing cold in the evenings.
After a little snack, I went down into the gorge. Completely different plants and animals. Huge papyrus plants, laurel and pine trees. It was similar to the cloud forests on La Gomera. At the bottom of the gorge, there was a stream. And suddenly it looked just like in the Wutach Gorge.
In the evening, the fog rolled in. It tightens like a second and then opens up again. We sit in front of our window as if in front of a huge television.
