We have been in Bali for four days now.
We have given up on our plan to go to Vietnam, although there are many destinations there that have attracted us. After more than five weeks, we were simply tired of Southeast Asia. From Thailand to Laos to Cambodia, the countries became poorer and therefore more difficult for us to get used to. The mountains of garbage on the roadside became more and bigger, the roads worse or just mud roads filled with potholes. Torsten and I felt more and more uncomfortable day by day. My 12-day-long diarrhea also physically exhausted me. That had nothing to do with enjoyable travel for us anymore.
In short, we decided to go to Bali (the flight from Cambodia to here was cheaper than to Vietnam) and that was a good decision. The heat here is easier to bear, as we can jump into the sea (with awesome waves) or the pool from time to time. Yesterday we took a trip to the countryside, drank the famous-infamous Luwak coffee (made from coffee beans excreted by cat-like animals - Jack Nickelson in 'The Bucket List'), watched a traditional fire dance during a breathtaking sunset, visited beautiful beaches and temples. Starting the day after tomorrow, we have booked accommodation in the inland and want to explore the mountains, rice terraces, volcanoes, etc. from there. We will report again; photos will be included in the next report.
