A: Our trip to the car rental in Miami Beach begins on Tuesday morning. We had to leave the Blue Little Havana accommodation in a "cloak and dagger" operation because we organized an Uber taxi ride and, out of ignorance, ordered the driver much too early. We started our road trip to the Key Islands from the car rental company. Driving is relatively easy for me, although it is quite difficult in the city because you need to be very attentive here, comparable to the first trip through Berlin. It is only when I am behind the wheel on the road that I realize that I have not familiarized myself with the American traffic rules. After a 3.5 hour drive across many bridges and island groups in the Atlantic Ocean, we reach the southernmost point of the USA on the last island in Key West. Here, too, there are numerous chickens running around freely on every street corner. We visit the monument for the southernmost point of the USA, walk through several streets, past a huge cemetery to the harbor. We end the day with food and drink in a Hard Rock Café. It is oppressively hot, only the night provides some cooling.
KG: Incidentally, Ernest Hemingway had his vacation home in Key West and wrote his novella "The Old Man and the Sea" here. As described in the novella, many swordfish (marlin) are still caught here. US President Truman also had a vacation home here, the "Little White House", from which he also conducted his government business.
Andreas drove the route from Miami to Key West very confidently, of course under the constant supervision of the co-driver, who was responsible for navigating, adjusting the steering wheel, instructing on how to use the windshield wipers, the refueling procedure, observing the traffic rules, and (very important!) for creating numerous almost identical short videos entitled "Andreas drives on the highway".
