Day 1 of 365 days off

ที่ตีพิมพ์: 01.04.2020

Today is the first day of our one-year break (so far we had remaining vacation) and my phone reminds me of the flight to Washington that we would have taken today. The motorhome arrived in Baltimore yesterday and we would have started our trip to the USA on April 1st due to the time difference... you already know all of this (but a little nostalgia should be allowed ;o)

Too bad that all of this is not an April Fool's joke!

Yesterday we had a small travel adventure for today's standards by traveling to the metropolis Hamburg with the motorhome to drop off my company car at the office. Now the beautiful Volvo is gone. Originally, I wouldn't have cared much about it in view of the big travel adventure, but now the situation is different and it feels like a piece of freedom is gone again (the exact opposite of what we had planned). So that we can be a bit more mobile and don't have to move the motorhome out of the driveway for every shopping trip, laundry or other things, we will probably get a car again. We really didn't expect that! We are currently looking and clarifying how we can manage this with regard to insurance and registration despite Corona and the associated restrictions and closures. Contact with car dealers still works via telephone and digitally.

Good news of the day, we still have toilet paper, because apparently no one has come up with the idea of buying up expensive, not exactly fluffy and thin camping toilet paper (at Edeka and Aldi, where I shopped yesterday, there was no toilet paper, unbelievable!). But since the camping shops are also closed, we can only order it online.

Another good news of the day, the flight has been cancelled. Just that you're not even aware of it :o) Your flight, in the transport box and in the cargo hold, was the point that always worried us the most about the trip, after all, she is almost 15 years old.

As it looks currently, she will be spared this for the next few months, because we don't have any plans for a later flight to the USA for now.

Since the current situation in the USA is unpredictable and a social change is also not foreseeable, we will stay in Europe. Yes, we are well aware that this is still far away for now, and no, we don't plan to first go to Italy or Spain ;o)

For now, we are waiting for the freedom to travel in Germany to be possible again (as long as the 14-day contact ban applies, we wouldn't even be allowed to stay at my mother's farm) and then we will think about where to go next, according to the current status of the countries. Probably north first... But we will have to wait and see...

P.S.: A big thank you to all of you! For empathizing with us and supporting us. We also follow the motto stay@home (in our motorhome by Carthago) and stay healthy. Hopefully you too!
