Southbound III....

About San Ignacio where we visit the mission and have a few tacos at the very tidy and modern market square, we head to Santa Rosalia. Here, it's time to do laundry again, unfortunately the town doesn't offer much besides the local mining company and the garbage dump. Except of course a church that was designed by Gustave Eiffel (yes, the one with the tower). It was on display at the World Exhibition and then purchased by one of the mining barons. This shows that there was once an economic center here.

In contrast, Loreto offers a different charm. It's set up for tourists without appearing touristy in the European sense. Here too, we visit the mission and go for a stroll.

On the way, we met Peter from Austria with his American partner and their daughter and her friend at a campsite near Mulege. Peter owns a pretzel bakery in Denver. Unfortunately, everything is sold out but there's still Christmas Stollen available.

After Loreto, Mex1 turns back towards the Pacific side. We try to find a place to stay in Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos, but we realize that the "whale industry" has a firm grip on the town. The town seems to only offer whale watching tours. So we continue a few more kilometers, which turns out to be fortunate.
