There's not much to pack. Eyes on, engine on. We head along the Spanish coast towards Bilbao.
A short stop at the Atlantic to catch the morning waves, and off we go.
I refuel - only €1.93 per liter and the ladies also get their first coffee. That's the disadvantage of not fully setting up for an overnight stay.
I will wait in a parking lot amidst mountains, greenery, and rocks. There seems to be something here. 2 hours later, they arrive and tell me about their trip. Chatter and joy and enthusiasm fill me. While I was sitting in the shade on one of the coveted parking spaces, they apparently went to visit a church.
Game of Thrones fans are just as welcome here as fans of churches, old walls, and many steps. Because this is the church of St. Juan, on an offshore island called Gaztelugatxe, located between Bakio and Bermeo. A staircase carved into the rock with 241 steps over a stone bridge in the Atlantic offers a breathtaking backdrop. In the series, this is Dragonstone (bridge seen in Season 7 Episode 5). A long walk with many views of the Atlantic and the church. You can see everything for free and even ring the church bells yourself. Upon arrival, there is a toilet where you have to flush with a bucket, opportunities to drink, eat, and buy souvenirs.
It's worth it - not only for fans of Dragonstone Castle. Bring some stamina and water for the walk and it's best to arrive early as the parking lot quickly fills up.
I start again at 2 pm - it's just a hop, skip, and a jump to Bilbao.
