#44 Christmas with the British

ที่ตีพิมพ์: 28.12.2021

December 24-25, 2021: Benicarló

F. In the morning of Christmas Eve, we drove to our campsite for the holidays. According to internet research, this campsite should have an excellent internet connection and would therefore guarantee a smooth connection via Skype. In addition, a Christmas dinner with live music was offered at the campsite.

After checking in, the internet quality was briefly tested and found to be good. Then we did some laundry and then chose fresh clothes for the Christmas dinner. For the dinner, you had to register in advance and you could choose one of three appetizers and three main courses. Jenny chose tomato mozzarella and lasagna, and I chose fried calamari rings and duck with cranberry sauce. When we entered the tent-like restaurant, most of the tables were already occupied and the atmosphere was very good, partly due to the loud music and the alcohol. We quickly realized that most of the visitors were over 65 years old and British, as conversations with various strong British accents could be heard at all the tables around us. In addition, all six people at one of our neighboring tables wore funny, Christmas-themed headgear. In addition to Santa hats, there was also a hat that looked like a roasted chicken on the head.

The campground is not only dominated by British visitors, but the operators also seem to come from England, as we already heard a sweet English accent at the reception and now during the speeches at the festival. The live music turned out to be a solo singer who sang along to playback music. However, she managed to fill the dance floor regularly with enough ABBA songs. In the afternoon, Santa Claus and Christmas angels also came, who gave each guest a gift, and later we went back to our van, well-fed, to get in touch with Germany.

On the first day of Christmas, we had a hearty breakfast and then did yoga on the beach. The weather couldn't make up its mind yet and was more like a German April, so we enjoyed a little walk through Benicarló in the sunshine. Besides the many British people, there were also plenty of Dutch and a few Germans at the campsite, with whom we had a few conversations. All in all, a successful stay at the campsite. The next few days the weather is supposed to be consistently sunny with temperatures above 20 degrees. Let's see what the week until New Year's Eve brings.
