29.12.2016 - Mafra

ที่ตีพิมพ์: 29.12.2016

We have now left Lisbon behind us. Big cities are just not for us. On the way to Mafra, a small town inland, we wanted to visit the many interesting sights in Sintra again, which were not open on the 2nd Christmas Day. However, finding a parking space was out of the question, the city was so crowded with people that we continued on to Mafra.

Here we visited the monastery palace. It is a huge, magnificent 40,000 square meter building with a beautiful church, 900 rooms and halls, 2,500 windows and 5,200 doors. During its construction from 1717 to 1730, the then king Joao V. would have almost ruined the state budget.

We found a place to spend the night in a small village behind Mafra. A small square with four free pitches and a disposal station, in front of it a large sliding gate, which you open, drive in and close again. :-)
