On the way back from our tour, we had a breakdown just before Windhoek with both cars. It wasn't anything serious, but we had to wait a long time for the mechanic from the car rental company and in the end, we had to be towed home by him. Both cars were cheated on at the gas station. It seems to happen frequently that the attendants at the gas stations put something else in the tank instead of filling it up completely and then keep the rest for themselves... That was the case with both of our cars. As a result, the fuel gauge didn't work anymore and eventually, the fuel ran out and we couldn't continue.
Well, since it was already the 23rd of December, we still had to go shopping... That messed up all our plans a bit and it got quite stressful.
In the end, we arrived at the car rental company 2 minutes before they closed and there was no one there anymore, except for the guy who had already towed our other car earlier. He kindly waited for us and everything went smoothly, just handed over the keys, a bill from a workshop in Livingstone, and that was all settled and we were even driven home.
About Christmas. After this stressful day, we of course slept in for a long time. We also met early and started cooking. We had sliced meat in pita bread, everyone agreed to that after very long discussions, and it was really delicious. Of course, we captured some moments wearing Christmas hats in the heat...
Then we exchanged gifts and sat on our terrace, enjoying the night-time Windhoek, chatting, and having one or two Savannah or beers until late at night.
