Holiday in Jammerbugten

Fell asleep to the sound of the sea and woke up to it as well, how lovely!

I didn't stay in bed for long, I put on my running shoes and went for a long jog along the endless beach. When I returned, I put on my bikini and went into the water. Compared to the ice water in Norway's lakes, it was a piece of cake, but the North Sea water was also quite chilly.

Best opportunity to finally try out the outdoor shower, it worked great, I was free from the salt water in no time. After breakfast, we strolled through the streets of Blokhus and couldn't resist stopping at a cozy pub and enjoying a beer at 12 o'clock. The decision was made, we treated ourselves to a holiday in Blokhus.

We quickly got a bodyboard for the beach day and bought 1 kg of cod fillet from the fish seller, so dinner was also taken care of. Unfortunately, the waves were much smaller compared to the morning and didn't have enough power to pull me on the bodyboard.

Finally, some quiet reading, taking a nap, and observing the surroundings, also nice. The best part of it all was having our own house on the beach!

Unfortunately, Della has been sick for two days, I hope the medication helps and he'll recover soon, fingers crossed! So I enjoyed the dreamy sunset alone, well not really alone, but with many other beach visitors.

As a final note, something interesting:

Why is it called Jammerbugten (The Bay of Lamentations)? According to an old story, when the storm raged on the sea, some trading ships sought refuge in the Bay of Lamentations. As soon as a ship ran aground in the difficult conditions, bandits were present and looted the sailors. This led to lamentation, hence the historical name of the bay.

Maybe a few sentences about the white bathing houses on the beaches:

As early as the mid-19th century, the North Sea attracted bathers. The locals themselves had endless respect for the sea and it was difficult for them to understand why the fine tourists wanted to bathe in it voluntarily. Initially, bathing was done from the bathing carriage at the water's edge, and soon also from the open beach. The bathing carriages were slowly replaced by bathing houses for changing and lingering. These bathing houses are still set up every summer on the beaches of Lokken and Blokhus. Blokhus has permission for 47, Lokken for 480 bathing houses.
