Sunday program: a visit to the famous Singapore Zoo.
On the way there, I took a bus further into the hinterland and saw a rural area for the first time in relation to Singapore standards. I then met up with Telli (a Couchsurfer friend, some of you might still remember her name) in front of the zoo, and together we plunged into the 'Jungle Adventure'.
As for the animals, the zoo in Singapore is nothing extraordinary for Germans. However, the entire zoo complex and the animal enclosures are particularly special.
We did not see a single cage in the traditional sense (with bars). Most enclosures were only separated by a low wooden fence and sometimes a moat.
Even the lion and tiger enclosures were practically open - absolutely fascinating. My absolute highlight were the white tigers, the cat lover in me just can't resist them.
The enclosures themselves are designed to resemble the animals' natural habitats. In Africa, an African village was built around the animal enclosures, and in other areas, you feel like you're in the jungle - which might also be due to the freely roaming monkeys of all kinds.
The Singapore Zoo was definitely worth a visit, and Telli and I had a great day!
