When we arrived, it was lightly raining at 16 degrees Celsius. But the captain gave us hope. Rightly so, because during the day it cleared up and became sunny.
The ship was right on the edge of the city and all the sights were within walking distance. By the end of the day, I had covered about 12 km.
I walked to the right along the promenade until I reached Castelo de San Anton. An old fortress, well-preserved and visitable, but I decided to skip it. Then I walked in a loop to the city center, passing by the impressive town hall through narrow streets with shops on both sides. Some small local gastronomy and shops, but often chain stores that can be found everywhere.
Then I decided to go to the Hercules Lighthouse on the other side of the city. The path felt like it went uphill forever. However, the 2000-year-old tower, perched prominently on the hill, compensated for it. It looks majestic, stable, and truly ancient in its construction. On the way, I passed Praia de Orzan, where many surfers were enjoying the waves.
And with that, we're leaving the European mainland for a while.
